Spring is springing and it’s perfect patio weather. Though we are lucky in Huntsville to be able to enjoy the outdoors a good portion of the year, there’s just something about spring that makes me want to relax on a patio and enjoy a nice beer-with Hector in tow of course.
There are loads of options in our area for a great drink so this is by no means an exhaustive list-it’s just places we frequent. We’d love to hear your favorites in the comments!
Das Stahl Bierhaus
This hidden gem on South Parkway is one we probably frequent the most. (If you click around their website, you’ll even spy Hector.) Their patio is completely enclosed and their rotating, and extensive, beer list is one we really enjoy. You’ll find favorites from local breweries as well as unique selections from around the globe. Don’t see something you like on one of their 32 taps? Their bottleshop has oodles of selections. Not a beer person? They also have wine, cider, mead and other options.
Straight to Ale
With a large, covered patio and a front biergarten, there’s plenty of places to sit with your pups. Straight to Ale is know for their local favorites, we are a fan of the Chill Pils, and a laid-back vibe. The patio features ceiling fans to help beat the summer heat and an enclosure during cooler months making this one a good choice year round. You can also grab a pretty yummy burger while you’re there.
Yellowhammer Brewing
Just across Butler Green sits Yellowhammer Brewery. It features two large patios, one mainly covered and one not, so there’s loads of space to spread out. The one patio can be mainly enclosed during cooler months to keep out wind and rain. Our favorite here is the T-Minus but if you can catch the seasonal Helles, I am a big fan. And of course, no visit is complete without an Earth and Stone wood fired pizza-yum! They once made breadsticks just for Hector and he was in heaven!
Salty Nut Brewery
Just down the street from Straight to Ale and Yellowhammer sits Salty Nut. There’s quite a few fun varieties here and dogs are actually allowed inside-but please keep them off the furniture. They have games and puzzles for guests to enjoy and their outside area is huge with plenty of grass. (Though you should still keep your dogs leashed.) Monday night is trivia night if you want to test your knowledge.
The Camp
So much room to spread out and enjoy and tons of special events and live music. Specialty cocktails and adult juice pouches are definitely a thing here if you want more than a beer. There’s a wide assortment of drinks and they are for sure pup-friendly. Just keep in mind sometimes they get pretty crowded with their special events. Tuesday through Friday from 4p-7p, they have some great Happy Hour specials.
The Nook
Want to be overwhelmed in a good way? The Nook features more than 500 beers with 80 on tap. Looking for something a little harder? They also have more than 280 choices of premium whiskey. The Nook features a separate enclosed patio with its own entrance that’s just for visitors bringing their four-legged friends so if your pup is a little bit shyer, this is a good choice. The last time we were there, we were the only people out there and I think Hector may have been disappointed. He likes to say hello to folks.
Rocket Republic Downtown
Located in Downtown Huntsville, Rocket Republic is now welcoming our four-legged friends to their patio. There’s some fun brews on tap as well as bourbons, wine and you can also enjoy food from Famous Eleanor’s. They have different special events like trivia and live music so you can always see what’s going on by checking their website.
What place will you be checking out next? Where’s your favorite? Let us know in the comments!
Debbie
Thank you, Amy and Hector. Your article broadened the options for me and Kai. Adding to your list, we enjoy Sam and Greg’s pizzeria downtown, followed by a long walk around the square and Big Spring Park. Sam and Greg’s has local brews or you can bring one back from Green Bus a few doors down. Occasionally we have a margarita at Taco Mama’s downtown location. Neither are patios, but have outside tables. Kai sends a Woof to Hector!
